GrowSocialCo

A Hootsuite alternative that posts to WhatsApp groups

Hootsuite describes itself as “Social moves fast. Hootsuite keeps you ahead. Social can be chaotic. Hootsuite keeps you organized.”. Everything this page says about Hootsuite was checked against its own site, documentation and public repository on , and is sourced below.

Hootsuite connects WhatsApp, so the usual claim that it has no WhatsApp is wrong. What the connection does is put one-to-one customer messages into Hootsuite Inbox. It does not schedule a post into a WhatsApp group. If you need a shared inbox and enterprise approval workflows, Hootsuite is far more mature than we are. If you need to post into group chats, it has no path to it.

Start with the thing most comparison pages get wrong

Hootsuite supports WhatsApp.

If you have read three other pages claiming it does not, they were written by somebody who checked a list from 2023 or who wanted the answer to be simpler. WhatsApp sits in Hootsuite’s integrations, it connects to Hootsuite Inbox, and connecting it takes a verified business account and admin access in Meta Business Manager.

We are opening with that because the rest of this page is a distinction, and a distinction is worthless if you have already caught the page overstating its case.

What Hootsuite’s WhatsApp connection does

It puts WhatsApp conversations into an inbox.

Hootsuite’s own description is receiving and responding to WhatsApp messages alongside your other social channels. Somebody messages your business, the message arrives in Inbox next to your Instagram DMs and Facebook comments, and a person on your team answers it. Hootsuite has built real depth here, including handing a caller off from a phone menu into a WhatsApp thread.

That is a customer-service surface, and a good one. It is built around a person writing back to another person.

Answering a message and posting to a group are different jobs

The thing a community admin does on a Tuesday evening is not answering messages. It is taking one announcement and putting it into eleven group chats, some on WhatsApp, some on Telegram, one on Discord, and then doing it again on Thursday.

Nothing in Hootsuite does that. Its WhatsApp integration is a conversation tool, its group-chat coverage elsewhere is absent, and WhatsApp groups appear nowhere in its material. This is not a gap it is hiding. It is a product aimed somewhere else, and the somewhere else is a brand with customers writing in rather than a community that has to be reached.

That is the job WhatsApp group scheduling is about, and it is the reason this product exists at all.

The community channels are missing entirely

Beyond WhatsApp, Hootsuite publishes to Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Threads and Pinterest. All mainstream feeds.

Discord does not appear. Telegram does not appear. Slack appears, but as a collaboration app: you can push a post into Slack to show a colleague, not publish to a Slack channel as an audience.

GrowSocialCo posts to all three as destinations, which it inherited from the Postiz open-source base it is built on. That inheritance is worth being honest about. We did not build Discord and Telegram support. We got it, and then added the WhatsApp piece nobody else had.

Hootsuite is the closest of the big four to having an answer here, and it is still not one. Buffer has no WhatsApp at all, SocialPilot has none either, and Later does not list a single group chat among the profiles in a social set. Hootsuite at least has the connection. It points at a different use for it.

Per-seat pricing and who it punishes

Hootsuite charges per user, per month, and the entry tier is a serious number before you have added a second person.

For a marketing team of four who each spend their day in the tool, that is defensible. For a community setup it is the wrong shape entirely: the pattern there is many people each doing a little, a volunteer moderator who posts twice a week, an intern who handles one channel. Under per-seat pricing every one of those is a full-price seat, so the tool quietly pushes you to share a login, which is how audit trails die.

We do not publish pricing, so this page cannot claim we are cheaper. What it can say is that per-seat is a model choice with a predictable victim, and if your team looks like that, price it carefully before committing.

Where Hootsuite is clearly ahead

Approval workflows. Custom permissions. Team reporting. Fifteen years of enterprise hardening and the compliance paperwork that comes with it. Case studies with named brands and attributed numbers, which is a higher standard of proof than most of this category manages.

If a post cannot go out until a manager approves it, Hootsuite has solved that and we have not. Say that out loud when you are comparing, because it matters more than a channel list to some buyers and we would rather you picked the right tool than picked us.

Where this page goes stale

The claim most likely to age here is the one about group posting, not the one about the inbox. Meta has been widening what the WhatsApp Business platform permits, and if Hootsuite adds scheduled group posting, the distinction this whole page rests on collapses and the page changes that week.

The date at the top is the last day somebody checked each claim against Hootsuite’s own integrations page, inbox page and pricing page, all linked below. Go and check them. This page is written by an interested party and you should treat it that way.

If group chats are the hard part of your week, the honest test is watching a post land in one. You can book a demo and bring your real channels.

When Hootsuite is the better choice

If several people answer messages and somebody has to sign off before anything goes out, take Hootsuite. Its shared inbox, approval workflows, permission controls and reporting are years ahead of ours, and its WhatsApp inbox connection is a real answer to customer conversations at volume. We do not have an equivalent to any of that, and a team that needs governance should not pretend otherwise.

Questions this raises

Does Hootsuite support WhatsApp?

Yes. WhatsApp appears in Hootsuite's integrations list and connects to Hootsuite Inbox, where a team receives and responds to WhatsApp messages alongside its other channels. Connecting it needs a verified business account and administrator access in Meta Business Manager.

Can Hootsuite schedule a post to a WhatsApp group?

No. Hootsuite's WhatsApp connection is an inbox for one-to-one conversations. Its own material describes receiving and responding to messages, and mentions WhatsApp groups nowhere. Scheduling a post into a group chat is a different action from answering a customer.

Does Hootsuite post to Discord or Telegram?

No. Neither appears in its integrations list. Slack appears, but as a place to share posts with your team for collaboration, not as a channel it publishes to.

Why does Hootsuite cost so much more per person?

Hootsuite prices per seat, per month. That model suits a marketing team where a few people each do a lot. It works against a community setup where many people each do a little, because every additional person is another full seat.

Which one should I pick?

If the hard part of your week is answering messages across channels with a team and an approval chain, Hootsuite. If the hard part is getting the same post into a dozen group chats on a schedule, Hootsuite has no route to that and we do.
